PIOTR ZBIERSKI

W 2012 roku wygrał prestiżową nagrodę dla Leica Oscar Barnack Newcomer Award za cykl prac "Pass by me".

"Push the sky away" - tryptyk nad którym pracował w latach 2008-2016.

PIOTR ZBIERSKI

Born in 1987, one of the most recognizable Polish photographers of the young generation. A graduate of the Film School in Łódź (major: photography), currently a PhD student at this university. He developed a unique, expressive style of black and white photography, which has been consistently developing for several years and has become its showcase. He has been experimenting intensively with color photography recently, using mainly instant materials (so-called polaroids).

He presented his works in galleries, among others in France, Germany, Portugal, Russia, as well as in magazines (Shots Magazine, Archivo Zine, Die Nacht, Gup Magazine). In 2012, he won the prestigious Leica Oscar Barnack Newcomer Award for his work cycle "Pass by me". His works can be found in the collections of the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts in Japan and in the Musée de l'Élysée in Switzerland.
In 2016, he published his first book entitled "Push the sky away" - triptych on which he worked in 2008-2016.

His works are, among others, in the collections of the Musée de l'Élysée in Switzerland and the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts in Japan.

He takes his photographs during a trip to the most distant (also civilization) areas of the world. What interests him most are the "traces" and "seams" of what was before the painting, archeology, which is not a linear reconstruction, but the recognition of the co-existence of times and worlds. Therefore, in his work Piotr Zbierski focuses mainly on ancient cultures (often animistic eg Paradangan in Indonesia) and rituals passed down for generations in the oral tradition (including the institution of the Shaman in the Siberian tradition, the role of rituals of transition in the tradition of Tana Toraja in Indonesia, initiation rituals of belonging to the community in the tradition of African tribes of the Omo District, the role of Szeptuch from Podlasie).
