Matthew Hender is a long time classically trained musician but a first time songwriter.
Performing in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, he has had great success as a bass player with the groups The Kubasonics and Long Distance Runners. He is also very much a part of the music community of Newfoundland performing on many local recordings and is one of the regulars of the only Bluegrass weekly show in St. John’s, High & Lonesome. Looking to express himself further, Matthew has taken to the piano and guitar and has written many songs in the singer/songwriter vein. He has written music about the seasons, self medicating, prostitution, defeat, money, vices, anxiety, love, abuse, and Christmas. Yes, even a Christmas song! His music has been described as brooding but delicate and laced with truthful observations. He is currently a solo performer and is in the process of creating his first solo album to be released in the coming year.
