Harvey Milk, Chavela Vargas, Ellen DeGeneres, Jodie Foster, Ellen Page, Janet Mock, Laverne Cox, Asia Kate Dillon… to tylko kilka nazwisk słynnych aktywistów, artystów czy gwiazd kina, które otworzyły się przed światem, wyszły na scenę i ogłosiły swój coming out, przyznając się otwarcie do orientacji homoseksualnej. I chociaż nigdy wcześniej nie żyliśmy w czasach tak liberalnych dla środowiska mniejszości seksualnych jak teraz – to wciąż, w niektórych krajach, funkcjonowanie w związkach jednopłciowych jest przedmiotem stygmatyzacji i skazywania ludzi realizujących nieheteronormatywne wzorce na społeczny ostracyzm. Dlatego też Koło Naukowe MyGender współorganizuje międzynarodowe, aktywistyczne i queerowe wydarzenie „Open Mic – take the stage to tell your story”, podczas którego uczestnicy i uczestniczki będą mogli opowiedzieć swoją historię. Możecie opowiedzieć, co chcecie i jak chcecie. Każda opowieść ma równe prawa. Na scenie pojawi się także gość specjalny, uczestnik konferencji ILGA-Europe, szwajcarski poeta spokenwordowy i prawnik Meloe Gennai.
Spotkanie poprowadzi barwna postać warszawskiej sceny queerowej – drag queen Bożenada Boberek, która specjalnie dla nas przygotuje powitalny performans. O muzyczną stronę open mic zadba DJ-ka Panoptxx – w duchu byłego COCADISCO London zagra dobre intro do każdego Waszego wyjścia na scenę.
Wydarzenie odbędzie się 2 listopada w klubie Pogłos.
Pierwszy międzynarodowy projekt Koła Naukowego MyGender:
„Open Mic – take the stage to tell your story” to wydarzenie zainicjowane przez członkinie społeczności akademickiej Uniwersytetu SWPS – dr Sandrę Frydrysiak oraz dr Weronikę Lewandowską.
Głównym celem projektu jest stworzenie przestrzeni do (merytorycznego i performatywnego) spotkania członków i członkiń Koła oraz innych studentów i studentek Uniwersytetu SWPS z międzynarodową społecznością akademicką i aktywistyczną skupioną wokół praw osób LGBTQIA.
Open Mind z Open Mic:
Każda historia może rozbawić, wzruszyć, zaszokować. Dlatego warto się odważyć i opowiedzieć swoją. Open Mic właśnie po to został wykreowany. Inicjatywa będzie miała formę konkursu: osoby zainteresowane opowiedzą/ wykrzyczą/ zaśpiewają na scenie swoją historię, a publiczność, poprzez głosowanie, wybierze zwycięzcę/ zwyciężczynię. Imprezę otworzy wywiad członka Koła Nukowego MyGender z gościem specjalnym, transgenderowym, szwajcarskim poetą spokenwordowym i prawnikiem, Meloe Gennai.

Osoby zainteresowane wystąpieniem zgłaszają się do organizatorów (Koło Naukowe MyGender), co najmniej 30 min. przed występem. Każdy/ każda z występujących ma 6 minut na zaprezentowanie, opowiedzenie swojej historii.
Dozwolone są teksty w języku angielskim. Jeśli chcesz wystąpić w innym języku, miej ze sobą tłumaczenie wystąpienia na język angielski. Potrzebujesz pomocy z translacją? Zgłoś się do organizatorów spotkania najpóźniej 26.10.
Na koniec wydarzenia publiczność, za pomocą rozdanych wcześniej kart do głosowania, wybiera zwycięzcę, zwyciężczynię konkursu. Na tę osobę czeka nagroda-niespodzianka sponsorowana przez KPH.
Meloe Gennai – poeta i prawnik opowiadający się za prawami mniejszości, aktywny na scenie spoken word od 2007 roku. Teksty tworzy po angielsku, niemiecku i francusku. Zdobył poetycką nagrodę Biennale Roberta Goffina. Występował m.in.: w Szwajcarii, Portugalii, Hiszpanii, Francji, Belgii i Niemczech.
Bożenada Boberek – postać nieobliczalna. Kobieta z klasą, ale i z pazurem. Jej styl można określić jako małomiasteczkowy glamour. Mimo tego, iż nie wie czego chce, wie czego nie chce.
DJ Panoptxx – w duchu byłego COCADISCO London zagra wachlarzem dźwięków wysokiego dramatu italo przeplatanego elektroniką i brzmieniami entr’acte, czyli tym co zdrowe w noise’ie.

Although nowadays we are witnessing an unprecedented liberalization of views and acceptance of sexual minorities, there are still places around the world, where same-sex relationships and non-heteronormative individuals meet with social exclusion. Therefore, MyGender Research Club is inviting members of the Warsaw queer community to take part in the event Open Mic - Take the Stage to Tell Your Story, where the participants will have an opportunity to tell their own stories. You can tell any story in a format of your choice. All types of stories are welcome. Guests will also be able to enjoy a performance by a special guest, Meloe Gennai from Switzerland, a spoken word performer and lawyer, who will be in Warsaw to attend the ILGA-Europe Conference.
The event will be hosted by a colorful personality of the Warsaw queer scene, drag queen Bożenada Boberek, who is preparing a special performance for the evening. Musical vibrations will be delivered by DJ Panoptxx, who will play a COCADISCO London intro to each stage performance.
First International Project of MyGender Research Club:
Open Mic - Take the Stage to Tell Your Story has been organized by Sandra Frydrysiak, Ph.D. and Weronika Lewandowska, Ph.D., academics from SWPS University.
The aim of the project is to provide a space (not only for performances, but also for a discussion on issues important to the LGBTQ+ community), where the members of the Research Club and other students of SWPS University can meet with international community of academics and LGBTQIA activists.
Open Mic and Open Mind:
Every story has the power to make people laugh, move them to tears or to shock them. Therefore, it pays to build up the courage and tell your own story. Open Mic has been created for that very reason. Open Mic will have a format of a competition, where participants will tell, sing or dance their stories on stage and the audience will choose the best performance.

Rules for Participants:
- Interested parties should register with the hosts of the evening (members of MyGender Research Club), at least 30 minutes before the start of the event.
- Every performer has 6 minutes to tell their story.
- All performances must be in English. If you wish to perform in another language, please bring a written English translation of your text. Do you need help with translation? Let us know by October 26th at the latest.
- The audience votes for the best performance (voting ballots will be distributed at the beginning of the event).
- The winner will receive a surprise award sponsored by KPH.
Meloe Gennai - poet and lawyer devoted to the rights of minorities, spoken word artist since 2007. He performs in English, German and French and played in Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium and Germany. Recipient of the Robert Goffin Biennale award.
Bożenada Boberek - an unpredictable personality. A woman with class and claws. Her style may be classified as small town glamour. Although she does not know what she wants, she definitely knows what she doesn’t want.
DJ Panoptxx - will play in the style of COCADISCO London and will deliver a smorgasbord of highly dramatic italo sound woven with electronic vibes and entr’acte notes, i.e. the healthy side of noise.
