Praca rąk w dobie maszynowej produkcji nie zanika. Przeciwnie - odradza się w innej formie i nabiera nowych znaczeń. Rzemiosło to nie ulotna moda, ale ważny trend społeczny, który na trwałe zmienia nasze relacje ze światem materialnym i innymi ludźmi. Działania w tym obszarze coraz częściej nazywa się mianem nowego rzemiosła. Organizatorzy konferencji poszukują odpowiedzi na pytania: kim jest nowy rzemieślnik? Czy jest sens odróżniać nowe rzemiosło od tradycyjnego? Czym się ono charakteryzuje i czy wymaga specyficznych warunków do rozwoju?
Organizatorki wraz z ekspertami, zaproszonymi gośćmi i aktywnym udziałem publiczności badają związki rzemiosła z nowymi obszarami zmian społecznych i kulturowych.
Konferencja odbędzie się online. Potrwa cztery dni i każdego dnia omawiany będzie inny temat przewodni:
1. NOWE RZEMIOSŁO - czym jest, kogo dotyczy, czym się charakteryzuje?
2. WARSZTAT - jaka jest rola miejsca pracy rzemieślnika, czym różni się od innych pracowni?
3. NOWE TECHNOLOGIE A MYŚLENIE DŁONIĄ - czym jest wiedza ucieleśniona i co to znaczy “mieć fach w ręku”?
4. GENDER W RZEMIOŚLE - czym jest craftivism i czy rzemiosło może być formą oporu?
W ramach przygotowań do konferencji przeprowadzone zostanie badanie środowiska polskich twórców rzemiosła. Konferencja będzie okazją do otworzenia dyskusji na temat warunków pracy rzemieślników, ich potrzeb i specyfiki zawodu.

The age of machine production has not eliminated the use of hands. On the contrary – it has compelled craft to be continuously reborn and take on new forms and meanings. Craft is not a passing fad but rather a culturally significant tendency which continues evolving our relationship with materials, process and other people. Endeavours in this discipline are increasingly referred to as “new craft” and with it, so is the jargon. With societal, cultural and technological change come changes to the dimension of the discipline of craft.
Who is today’s new craftsperson? Does it make sense to distinguish between new and traditional craft? What is it characterized by and does it require specific conditions for development?
In “Wytwórczo / Makingly” Alicja Patanowska (potter) and Agata Nowotny (design researcher and curator) aim to address these questions alongside many others relating to the contemporary and evolving conditions of craft.
The organizers, together with experts, invited guests and active participation of the audience aim to explore the relationships between craft and new spheres of societal and cultural change. The conference will be online. It will last four days and each day a different theme will be addressed:
NEW CRAFT - What is it, who does it affect, what is it characterised by?
THE WORKSHOP - What is the role of the craftsperson’s workspace, how does it differ from other artisan workshops?
NEW TECHNOLOGIES VS THINKING WITH YOUR HANDS - what is muscle memory and what does it mean to “have it in the wrist”?
GENDER IN CRAFT - what is crafifism and can craft be a form of resistance?
