Puszka Pandory: kolaż, sylwety, karykatura. Wykład Lubainy Himid / Pandora’s Box: Collage, Figures and Caricature

Muzeum Sztuki Nowoczesnej w Warszawie zaprasza na wykład brytyjskiej artystki Lubainy Himid, laureatki ubiegłorocznej nagrody Turnera, zatytułowany „Puszka Pandory – kolaż, sylwety, karykatura”.

Podczas spotkania Lubaina Himid opowie o serii swoich wczesnych prac tworzonych na początku lat 80. XX wieku, takich jak Puszka Pandory, Psie lata czy Wolność i zmiana, które można zobaczyć na wystawie „Niepodległe. Kobiety z dyskurs narodowy”. Prace te powstały z namysłu nad tym, jakie efekty satyra, komizm i żart może mieć w tworzeniu sztuki. Artystka zastanowi się nad tym, jakie metody produkcji i praktyki wystawiennicze są najbardziej kreatywnymi narzędziami w tworzeniu zmiany.

The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites the public to attend a lecture by the British artist Lubaina Himid, winner of last year’s Turner Prize, entitled “Pandora’s Box: Collage, Figures and Caricature.”

In her talk, Himid will discuss a series of her works, such as Pandora’s Box, Dog Years, and Freedom and Change, on view at the exhibition "Niepodległe: Women, Independence and National Discourse". These works were made with a view to the effects that satire, humour and jest can have in the creation of art.

“In this talk I will speak about the series of painted wooden cut out men made by me in the early 1980s and the collage/cut-out work, from the same period, which developed from discussions about the potential effect this satirical series might have on audiences. I will ask questions about which method of production and display is the most effective and creative tool for change” – Lubaina Himid.
